I dont really see the intangible artistic value of them either. So that being said i was more pushed than drawn to the horse series. And even in that series i saw pictures that were, no disrespect intended, laughable. Maybe i just dont get it.
With that being said, i was more pushed than drawn to the horse series. And even then i saw pictures that were, no disrespect intended, laughable. The work that pulled me in immediately was "Wild Secret Girl" The work is basically a a white horse being restrained by thick strips of canvas that are wrapped around its legs and head. What makes the work powerful to me in the organic harmony. The form, content, and subject go together nicely.
The form works because the artist decided to turn what would be a 3d sculpture into a 2d photo. The reason i think this is the best state for the work is because as a sculpture the burlap strips that are restraining look forced and unnatural. Also i dont believe that as a sculture the work could have obtained the sick contrast that is created by the blue/black negative space and the cream horse and harnass. Also there seems to be a blue to black gradiennt in place that makes the horse look like is running out of dusk into the night. The day versus night theme in a common and meaningful one.
This might just be my lack of understanding speaking but i think in the case of most photos the form and content overlap. So the fact that those two things can be one and the same just adds to the harmony.
The subject, quite frankly, is subjective as in most art, but i think the title hints at the feeling i had upon first seeing the work. I think the subject of the work in the attempt by some authority figure to tame the wild spirit of someone. the placement of the restraints over the eyes and the fact that the horse seems to be trying to run of f into darkness suggest that the horse is ignorant to what might lay ahead. Making the restraints not malicious but protective. And if the horse does know what is faces that might be the "secret" the title refers to.

Defend my template

<marquee>-Defend-</marquee>

Aight, so basically i chose this template becaue im inclined to like themes and color schemes where black dominates all other colors. Also i always thought the black vs white contrast was pretty sick. I have no problem sacrificing balance and variety for this template. The cool blues and greens add a small bit of variety, just enough to make this template work and not just come off a "stupid black".
